Top 9 "acts" deemed abusive

By: Fazlie Nordin, Hareez & Kuna

Often, most actions we do seem normal to us. We most like see it as kind of feasible acts, kind of
ways to be cooler than your “lame” friends. However, this article untangled why actions we
normally do can be perceived as an act of abuse to others. So think twice before you do or say
something.

1# Mind the way you greet someone

Greeting someone you know can vary according to how close you are to the person. But some people will forcefully hug a person just to greet them. This usually happens at college campuses whereby friends accompanying each other and when they bump into this over social, popular guy in school, he will hug everyone around. It’s not that he have no ethics. But it’s just that he is social and that’s how he greets his friends. So when a person doesn’t like to be hugged by other guys, they will feel intimidated.

2# Be careful on what you wear and how you strike a pose
Everyone loves to take pictures of them self. There’s a term for it too; selfie. It’s not a problem if you take an appropriate selfie of yourself. But when you wear skimpy cloths, strike a sexy pose and post it on the internet for everyone to see, now that’s a problem. Why? Well it’s because when you pose a seductive picture online, you will let everyone be able to see your body fully and undisclosed. A bum-shorts and a T-shirt can be casual for you. But if you snap yourself in a different angle, it could be a lot more different and that people who view it will have a hard time reducing their testosterone level.

3# Ouch! That statement
It’s so cool to wear t-shirts with motives, cartoon and even with provocative statements. But do you ever wonder will it affect the people who read it? The truth is, it does affect to those who feel like the statement was meant to them. For example, t-shirts with statements like ‘don’t look you pervert!’ can be harsh to the person who reads it.

4# 'Tease me', 'tease me', say that you love me.
Sometimes it’s a norm for you to tease someone. But can you go overboard with it? Yes. How? When you tease someone be careful on how you tease them with. Don’t tease them with issues that they are sensitive with. Don’t tease them at public place. It indeed can be humiliating for them.

5# Personal Space

Tickle, tickle, tickle; would you say that it is bad or not? For the tickled it may be seen as an abused of
their personal space, but for the tickler, it may be an act of playfulness. Be it as it may, though some may
find it humorous, it is still an issue that touches on the topic of abused and that sometimes, humorous things
can have significantly bad impact on people’s life. An extreme version of this can be that it is a cover for a
form of sexual abuse that is done by one party to another, which can leave traumatic consequence. Either way, before you start tickling people, think about the real impact it can bring to that person you are tickling.

6# Can I have one McDoug?

What you just put into your mouth could have been a loyal guardian who defended a family home. Yeaps,
that's right. Apparently this animal abusing act is considered as a norm in some countries. Animals that we
consider friends and a part of our family are sold in restaurants and served to people. For some, woefully, this ludicrous venture is seen as a bravery feat, while in Malaysia, this act is seen as an unacceptable hostility toward animals. One thing is for certain, if Steve Irwin is still alive -- he surely will safeguard those animals' right, in many cases, not to be eaten, alive.

7# Groovy Game?
Imagine some kind of manure being thrown at you. You must be wondering what the !@#$ is going on, well for children in the Suburbia of the United Kingdom, this ridiculous situation is a common occurrence to those who are targeted by bullies for being different, be it because you're flying with colours or that you came from a different cultural background than them. Either way, this new groovy game that kids are now trying to avoid is called “Shit on a stick” where bullies would go around to find cow manure so that they can use it on a stick to be flung about to people that they dislike.*Euwww, I know right.

8# Sad Truth
Vilified, disesteemed, and being look down upon; what if those are the experience you face whenever you go out from your home. Here in Malaysia, we may think that those kinds of situations does not or rarely happen in our own country, but the truth of the matter regarding racism will scare you personally. Though it is mostly seen as racial abuse, it is from experience we see that people of African descendants face the brutal upfront of this abuse more than others. Be it being cursed upon with foul language or ignored as though they are inflicted with some sort of leprosy, but if you were to ask why it is so, one need only look within oneself to know the dark truth of racism that lies within all of us.

9# Tolerance with intolerance

Stupid, dumb, faggot, idiot, and moron; What if those words were uttered to you? Would you stay quiet, ignore the person, or beat the person senseless. Either way, we may dream of fighting back with clever
remarks or just action. But the truth of the matter is that most of us would sadly take it quietly, trying our
best not to step on other people's toe. And this has created a culture of sadly tolerating people's bad idiotic belief, making a gateway for the brute and unintelligent to control our life.
